Funding Proposal Credit

Funding Proposal Credit

With the implementation of PERA, credit split will be handled differently than it has been historically handled in Coeus.

Current State

Proposal/Award Academic Credit: At the proposal stage, both academic and Discovery Park credit are identified by the principal investigators for each investigator.  This “academic credit” is determined and split across their home departments as well as all other departments with which they have an appointment. This academic credit is captured by percentage and used for all proposal, award and expenditure reporting. The assigned proposal credit can be adjusted at the time of award for award and expenditure reporting.

Proposal/Award Discovery Park Credit: In addition to academic credit, a separate and parallel credit is captured based upon an identified list of the Discovery Park District centers and institutes. “Discovery Park credit” is assigned by percentage for each center and institute identified. The assigned Discovery Park credit can also be adjusted at the time of award for award and expenditure reporting.

Future State

*In determining this solution, unit heads and deans were polled.  While the wishes of all unit leads could not be accommodated, this solution allows us to keep the concept of credit reporting but in a much more simplified form.

Proposal/Award Academic Credit: The Huron Research Suite (HRS), branded as PERA, is not configured in a way that supports capturing “credit” at the detailed level as in Coeus. To accommodate this, at the proposal stage, “academic credit” will be captured for the principal investigator and all individuals identified as co- investigators on a pro-rata basis.    Only one department can be selected per investigator.  This means that all identified investigators (Lead PI or Co-PI) will be assigned equal credit.

*For a proposal where there is one PI and two Co-PIs they will each receive 1/3rd credit.  For a proposal where there is one PI and four Co-PIs they will each receive 20% credit.

Credit will be automatically assigned to the home department if there in not a split appointment.   Any investigator with a split appointment will be asked to indicate which department is to receive the credit for the proposal being developed. This pro-rata credit will be utilized for proposal and award reporting.

Proposal/Award Discovery Park Credit: Discovery Park Credit will be replaced with Center and Institute affiliation.  A list of the Discovery Park centers and institutes identified by the Office of Research will be available in PERA for Principal Investigators to identify by selecting the checkbox for any of the listed centers and institutes that aligns or affiliates with the proposal/project.  The selection can range from none to multiple.  No percentage will be identified.

*Expenditure Credit: Expenditure credit will utilize the responsible cost centers where the funds are allocated.
